However, the messenger is not believed by the youth, so they decide to kill the hostage in secret. This makes Ichi suspect that he himself may have been kidnapped. Meanwhile, Jin comes to town for a few days, looking for Seinoshin, but Masa intervenes and prevents Jin from killing the man.

This series is unlike most other samurai anime, in that it is a character-driven drama. Action scenes are sparse and only serve to enhance the characters' development. The story is a journey into the past that the Five Leaves are forced to face. Throughout the story, Masanosuke Akitsu encounters a past he'd rather not talk about.

Rurouni Kenshin
